Our Story
We started Project: Feed the Kids in 2021, after we learned there were children in our community who didn’t have access to lunches when school is not in session. We began in July since schools continue providing meals during the month of June. The Snack Pack program covers Fridays, so we operated Monday-Thursday, for three weeks.
In 12 twelve days we passed out over 4,400 meals to families in Dumas. Last year we handed out over 12,000! And not just any meals – they were delicious! Each lunch consisted of a hot main course (burgers, spaghetti, brisket sandwiches, sloppy joes, pizza, etc.) chips, fruit, a dessert, and a drink. Everyone was truly grateful for this outreach and hoped we would do it again. This year we’re extending the number of days this service will be made available. We’re starting on July 8th and continuing until August 8th. We know this program will aide many families, especially since the cost of food has been increasing rapidly.
How You Can Get Involved
Last year we averaged 631 meals a day. If there is anything you can do to join us in this distribution, it would be more than appreciated! We need food, drinks, paper supplies, and funds (feeding 600+ children, 4 times a week, for 5 weeks is expensive).
As you can imagine, it would break our hearts if we ran out of food and had to turn children away. Hence, every donation, no matter how great or small, would not only be a blessing, but it would also help to ensure that every child who shows up, leaves with a full belly and a smile on their face.
